FAQs
I am a small business owner. What can a website do for me? (top)
A website can offer your business many advantages, including:
- A more professional company image
- Improved branding
- Increased sales
- Inexpensive advertising
- Edge on the competition
- Better customer relations
A website can help your business reach new customers, keep you in closer contact with your current customers, and enable you to respond quickly and efficiently in a rapidly changing market.

How long does it take to have a web site designed? (top)
The time frame is determined by the size of your web site, the complexity of your site design, and my current client design schedule.
The timescale of a website design project is often dictated by the client. If you have a deadline in mind I will endeavour to meet it for you. The most common delay in the creation and completion of a new website is waiting for content (text/images) to be sent to me by the client.

Can I choose you to design my site and use my own web hosting? (top)
Yes, you can use any web host you like. Once your website has been completed you will have to provide me with your web hosting ftp login username and password so that I can upload your website for you.

What is site maintenance? (top)
Site maintenance is a fee paid monthly to keep your site updated with new content that you provide. Most good web sites have new content updated regularly. Fresh content is what will keep your visitors coming back. This is an optional service that I provide for my clients.

Web Site Content - What Do I Put On My Site? (top)
That would depend on the goals of your web site. If you run a business website you would include as much information about your products or services that your customers would purchase from you.

In what format should I supply words and photographs for my new website? (top)
It is helpful to me if you are able to provide text and photographs in electronic form - for example, the files output by a digital camera and the words in MS word or similar format. If this is not possible, I can help get your information ready for use on the website.

How Do I Get My Domain Name? (top)
Melkoa Creative will take care of registering your domain name for you. Just let me know what kind of name and extension you are looking for and I will do a check for you and tell you what domain names are available.

Can I Make Changes And Update My Site? (top)
If your web site only needs a minor change like a change of contact details then I will do it free of charge. If a more complex change is needed like adding extra pages or images then a nominal fee will be charged depending on the amount of work required.

What does "standards-compliant" mean? (top)
Unknown to many, specific standards exist for the code that runs a web site. These standards apply to most web-related markup languages. Often, the code that is generated by a program like Microsoft Frontpage or created by a non-professional is not compliant to these code standards. This can result in many problems, including poor display in many types or versions of browsers, or even a total absence of display! With the increasing prevalence of web-enabled cell phones, standards-compliance is becoming more and more critical. Standards are set by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), an international organization.

Are your pages standards compliant? (top)
I believe in standards, but not at the cost of function or design. This page, for example, is totally standards compliant and yet will still display even in non-compliant browsers. In fact, all my sites are verified using the W3C verification tools and include search engine submission and tailoring.

Do you redesign existing websites? (top)
Yes I do. I can redesign, retaining your company corporate style or I can redesign to give you a complete new image. Is your website up to date ? I can redesign your website to take advantage of the latest web technologies.

Can I see how many visitors I've had to my website? (top)
Yes I can provide you with weekly reports which will contain where your visitors are coming from and which pages they looked at, which search engines are being used, which phrases are being typed into which search engines and many more interesting web tracking facts which you should find useful for future marketing campaigns.

Do you use Flash animation in your website design? (top)
Yes I do use flash as and when required. It is important to note that there are times when flash animations can be an asset but it would be unwise to use "flash" to create an entire website or even entire pages of your website as search engines are not able to read the content of flash and therefore any words used in animations will not be indexed by the search engines.
